Many of our hobbies follow our kids’ interests…just sometimes more advanced versions. However, my brother and I have taken a somewhat independent interest in drones….partly in order to defend ourselves from attacks from the kids. Drone combine many of our common interests from computers, electronics/circuits, photography, RVs, solar energy and adventure. We’ve compiled some helpful resources in the DIY drone space.
Drone How-To and Resources
OscarLiang.com – The most comprehensive drone resource out there when it comes to building drones. Oscar has spent countless hours reviewing products, writing walk throughs and more. This resource is priceless and guaranteed, you’ll spend a ton of time on his site. I have spent hours on Oscar’s site walking through tutorials, troubleshooting builds and reading about products. There is a lot of useful information.
Drone Stores
These sites sell drones, DIY kits, batteries, controllers and more. We have found these to have the best selection, lowest prices and best shipping policies. We do buy a lot off of Amazon, but when we can wait a little longer for shipping we try to support the smaller sellers and stores.
GetFPV.com – This site has a decent selection and reasonable shipping. I do find the organization a bit chaotic but they have a good variety of products and decent pricing.
NewBeeDrone.com – I love the name of this one as everyone has called me “B” my entire life. A bonus, they have a great selection of drone components and they even build some of their own. The AcroBee is a great little tiny whoop and a whole lot of fun.
RaceDayQuads – A small online shop with free shipping for orders over $99. I found excellent pricing on chargers at RaceDayQuads. My order shipped out the next day as advertised it would on their site.
Amazon.com – Fast shipping with Amazon Prime and endless inventory. I do prefer to purchase from the smaller shops when I can but here in the Denver metro, I can get many products overnight. There is often little free time available in my work/life schedule so the quick shipping of Amazon Prime is often critical for my projects.
